SECOND INNOCENCE
Guy Reed writes poems that are driven by soil, grease, sweat, tears and love. His is a vulnerable and plain-spoken poetry, ready made for the troubling times in which we live. Reed’s unpretentious diction and fierce eye for detail are both moving and exacting. And yet, these poems call no attention to themselves. They instead fulfill Philip Levine’s notion of an ideal poem, where “no words are noticed.” You don’t read these poems, you live them.
